07:30 pm: FoodWorld VAT lagaata hai - or, Small is Beautiful
I bought some stuff at the FoodWorld Supermarket. These guys not only charge you the full MRP (Maximum Retail Price), but also slap a flat 12.5% tax on the bill amount. Apparently, there is some confusion on this issue after VAT was implemented here in Karnataka - so they are playing it safe.

My small friendly neighborhood grocer on the other hand, gives me stuff below MRP - with some personalized attention thrown in.

I'm switching :-)

06:14 pm: Six Apart to buy Live Journal
Six Apart, the parent company behind hosted blogging service TypePad, and Moveable Type is about to acquire Live Journal, for an undisclosed amount. The deal is a mix of stock and cash, and could be announced sometime later this month, according to those close to the two companies. If the deal goes through, then Six Apart will become one of the largest weblog companies in the world, with nearly 6.5 million users. It also gives the company a very fighting chance against Google’s Blogger and Microsoft’s MSN Spaces.

09:19 am: Tsunami facts
The earthquake that created the Tsunami was so powerful that -

1. It wiped out Indira Point off the map (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/975380.cms)

2. It increased the Earth's rotation by 3 microseconds and made the planet wobble (http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2004602251,00.html)

Another interesting fact - No animals died in the National Park in Sri Lanka where the water came in 2 miles inland - looks like the animals have an early warning system that far surpasses what we have (http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/COL136356.htm)
